Rich, ultra-moist, and deeply chocolatey—this cake is a foolproof favorite for birthdays, celebrations, or any sweet craving.

📝 Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour

  • ¾ cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 cups (400g) sugar

  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder

  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 cup (240ml) milk (or dairy-free alternative)

  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water or hot coffee (for enhanced flavor)

For the Frosting (Optional):

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 2/3 cup (55g) unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 3 cups (360g) powdered sugar

  • 1/3 cup (80ml) milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Batter

  • Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans (or line with parchment).

  • In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth (1–2 minutes).

  • Slowly stir in the hot water or coffee—batter will be thin.

Step 2: Bake

  • Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.

  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  • Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Step 3: Frost (Optional)

  • For the frosting, cream butter and cocoa powder.

  • Add powdered sugar alternately with milk, beating until smooth and spreadable.

  • Mix in vanilla, and spread over cooled cake layers.

Tips:

  • Add chocolate chips or a splash of espresso for even richer flavor.

  • Can be made into cupcakes—bake for 18–20 minutes.

  • Stores well in the fridge for up to 5 days; tastes even better the next day!
